Laguna Hills was named for its proximity to Laguna Canyon and Laguna Beach.  It has a population of just over 30,000 residents and boasts some of the areas finest medical facilities and Saddleback Hospital. The Laguna Hills Mall is also a large attraction and the many restaurants and retail stores surrounding the mall as well. After  Mexico’s independence from Spain in 1821, The land in Laguna Hills pertained to Don Juan Avila and was called Rancho Niguel. That land was later purchased by Lewis Moulton in 1874 and became part of the Moulton Ranch. In the 1960’s the lad was subdivided, part of which is recognized as Laguna Hills.
